everything can be magical if you let it be. i remember the first time seeing red-winged blackbirds i was just…enthralled. i watched them for maybe an hour. i thought they made the sweetest noises and were just so pretty. and i found out later on that people consider them nuisances and pests. they’re literally common all over the united states but because they weren’t familiar to me they weren’t a burden or an annoyance but something beautiful. if we don’t let other people tell us how to feel about things, maybe we can just like things for what they are
this is a hotter, deeper take than i ever expected to see from this blog, but you’re so fucking right and i think this is a good ass post and a sentiment everyone should at least think about
I like how looney tunes were like “wouldn’t it be funny if a cute cartoon character suddenly yelled extremely loud and furiously in a totally regular man’s voice” and then they just used that gag a million times and it always was funny
If you’ll forgive me for adding unwanted commentary, while idk if this applies to Bruno Mars specifically, a lot of labels want “I love you even though you’re imperfect and therefore ugly” songs because a) they sell to folks with low self-esteem and b) folks with low self-esteem are encouraged by our capitalist society to buy things to make them feel better; if they can be convinced to buy a song, and then the song sneakily makes them hate themselves more, maybe they’ll buy more songs.
…did it ever occur to anyone that Shakespeare wrote a poem about his lover and compared her hair to wire bristles?
It’s a time-honored tradition - going back to the time of the Kings and Queens of England at the very least, when there WAS no Capitalism, dumbshits - to talk about a loved one being imperfect and reveling in the fact that you love someone exactly as-is. You want to let your beloved know that you realize they aren’t perfect, and that you’ll stand by them anyway, because you’re imperfect, too.
I mean, I’m not crazy about the song, but that’s because the music doesn’t gel with me. The lyrics are standard fare.
Read a book or something before you go spouting off about capitalism being the root of all evil, dipshit.
Did not realize until today that Cyntoia Brown had already been in prison for 15 years I thought this whole thing was recent and they had tried this 16 year old girl as an adult and sent her to prison last year or some shit she’s fucking 30 now she’s been imprisoned half her life I’m glad she’s getting out in August but I had no idea how much she had already lost
